Wakefield Soroptimists raise £1300 in the gym!

The Soroptimist International club in Wakefield took on the challenge and cycled to Africa.  They took a shortcut though – and did it from their local health club.  Between them they cycled a combined distance further than Wakefield to Lusaka on spin cycles.

Congratulations to all involved and a huge thank you for raising over £1,300 to help us to buy bicycles for community volunteers in Zambia.  Volunteers provide home-based care for people with TB.  They work with patients to ensure adherence to treatment and also locate new cases of TB.  The volunteers make an assessment of the patients’ needs and visit them up to 3 times a week, ensuring they are adhering to treatment regimes and checking up on their health. The volunteers also offer essential practical and emotional support to patients. With a bicycle, visiting one patient 3 times a week is much easier and allows the volunteer to spend more time with the patient providing that support.

Can your club or community group raise money to help us in the fight against TB?  We would be really grateful if you could help. Please do get in touch for ideas, or download our fundraising ideas pack here.
