Birthday honours TB

We were delighted when we received a call from Alexia Lazou last week asking if we would like to come along to her 40th Birthday celebration.  Alexia held her party at the Duke of York Cinema in Brighton, where she co-celebrated her big day on the 139th anniversary of the Brighton based illustrator, Aubrey Beardsley's birth.  Aubrey is Alexia's favourite artist and in his honour she had a special showing of 'Salome', the 1923 film, based on the play by Oscar Wilde and whose costumes were inspired by Aubrey's illustrations.

Aubrey Beardsley was a controversial artist whose life was tragically cut short when he died, aged 25 of Tuberculosis.  Aubrey had struggled with the disease from the age of 7 and Alexia felt that it would be a fitting tribute to raise money for people currently suffering with TB in the world.  Thanks to her generosity and the generosity of all her guests she raised £169.08 on the day - a phenomenal amount which will help save the lives of individuals suffering from TB today.  Thank you Alexia!
