Target TB Funding Guidelines
Goals and objectives of Target TB
The eradication of tuberculosis is a long-term aim and Target TB sees its role within this great effort as working holistically – through both clinical and socio-economic paths – to address the disease and its effects.
Target TB works with overseas partners in Southern Africa, South East Asia and South Asia to:
- Improve opportunities for treatment for people with TB
- Reduce the suffering caused by TB to patients and their families through the poverty associated with the disease
- Reduce the stigma associated with TB
- Address the particular problems caused by the co-existence of TB and HIV/Aids
We will achieve these objectives by:
- Supporting efforts to control TB through strengthening the capacity of local organisations in the countries in which Target TB works to address both the causes and the impacts of the disease.
- Seeking funds which will allow local organisations to maintain and develop their work by building up their basic strengths rather than making them dependent on long-term financial support.
- Undertaking, in partnership with academic and other bodies, operational research to learn from experience and use this to improve patient services and care.
- Building partner organisations and others into a network in which all can learn from the experience of others.
Funding guidelines
- All organisations applying for support must clearly show how the project will fit within the goals and objectives of Target TB.
- Target TB currently works with partner organisations in Southern Africa, South Asia and South East Asia. Unfortunately we are not normally able to support project requests from outside of these regions.
- Organisations applying for financial support should normally be non-profit making organisations and should be either officially registered or working towards registration.
- Joint bids or consortium bids from more than one organisation are also welcome.
- Target TB is committed to working in partnership with government health services in the countries in which it works. Any applications for support should clearly show how your organisation and project works in partnership with relevant government health programmes, e.g. under National TB Programme and DOTS.
- Target TB will not normally fund the purchase of TB treatment drugs. All TB treatment drugs should be provided free of charge through partnership with government health systems.
- All organisations applying for support must clearly show how the project and its activities are inclusive and open to everyone.
- We welcome applications that have a high degree of beneficiary involvement, and particularly look for the inclusion of those less powerful in society.
- Target TB will provide funding for time-bound projects which have a clear and sustainable impact on the lives of people affected by TB. All funded projects are subject to regular monitoring and evaluation and a comprehensive evaluation will be carried out at the end of the funding period.
- Target TB will enter into formal partnership and funding agreements before any financial commitment is made. These clearly set out the reporting requirements for project partners which must be adhered to.
- Target TB may use information from a project proposal for fundraising purposes.
Application procedure
Please note, Target TB is not currently accepting any concept notes until March 2009.
Target TB will accept initial applications for support in the form of a concept note of no more than 3 pages in length. Information to be included in the concept note is detailed below.
When sending the concept note please also include a copy of your latest audited financial statements (or equivalent) and a copy of your governing document, constitution or memorandum and articles of association.
Concept notes should be sent to the Programme Development Manager –
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
or posted to Target TB, 49-550 Refuge House, Brighton, BN1 1RH, United Kingdom. All concept notes should clearly show how the application for support fits within Target TB goals, objectives, and funding guidelines.
Concept notes can be submitted at any time but will only be considered twice a year at Trustees meetings (January and July). We aim to respond to applications within 1 month of these meeting dates.
If the concept note fits within Target TB funding priorities, you will be contacted for further information about your organisation and the project you are applying for funding for. Target TB may also send a representative to carry out a field visit to meet with you and discuss your application.
A full application can then be submitted to Target TB, in the Target TB proposal format. This will then be considered by the Board of Trustees for a decision on funding.
Please note: the process of developing a project concept through to a funding decision from Target TB may take up to 1 year.
